Book Review - a new book here at the library

Book Review by Hannah Wilcox

The Annotated Sense and Sensibility
by Jane Austen and David M. Shapard (Editor)  2011
    Call no:  823 A87s 2011

This is one of Jane Austen's first novels.  This romance story follows two sisters, Elinor and Marianne, as they move to a new home where their lives will change because of love and heartbreak.  The reader must decide at the end of the book whether there was a merging of sense and sensibility or not.   This annotated version just added to and expanded on that question. The extensive notes, illustrations, and maps explain much -- in language, in social behavior, in culture and in period of time -- that either no longer exists in the 21st century or has altered greatly over 200 years.
